Databases
I find it best to use the cloud whenever possible. However, for larger amounts of data it’s sometimes more practical to self host. These two databases seems useful for personal data archives:
- QuestDB
- ClickHouse
So far benefits of ClickHouse over QuestDB are:
- Grafana Plugin supports HTTP protocol, which is easier to securely self-host and expose to the internet
- Debian apt package, which makes it easier to maintain and keep updated.
- TablePlus supports ClickHouse, which is a great GUI for managing databases
- Indexes for eventual data deduplication. QuestDB symbols are nice too.
It does lack a few features that QuestDB has, like:
- Free web console
- InfluxDB line protocol support + automatic table creation
